In the 20th century compulsory sterilization with eugenics aims were performed in two canadian provinces (Alberta and British Columbia). The sexual Sterilization Act of Alberta was enacted in 1928 and removed in 1972. Throughout this period over 2,800 people were sterilized under this act, many have come forward and  sued the Province of Alberta for forced sterilization— The Province of Alberta have given C$142 million in damages and have continued to shed light on the human right violation that is forced sterilization.
